UMOPAR Chapare is the special unit of FELCN, Special Force Against Drug Trafficking, has 300 units in the Chapare divided into three bases, Chimore, Villa Tunari and Bulo Bulo. The Chapare is the most important cocaine production area in Bolivia.
The basic work done by the FELCN and their agents, Leopard, is the location and destruction of factories and cocaine laboratories and the capture of controlled substances. In the specific case of the Chapare is the destruction of laboratories and capturing drug carriers.
Eight patrols, with seven policemen and armed with M-16, patrol 365 days a year the jungle. Their operations are based on police investigation, denounces from residents and routine patrol.
Until early 2009 the FELCN had the assistance of the DEA, from that date and given the government's decision to nationalize the war on drugs, the FELCN has lost resources, but their efforts have not diminished in many cases causing injuries and deaths in their ranks.
